Swap-O-Rama-Rama is a joint production between Got Craft? and the Vancouver Craft Mafia. It will be held April 19, 2009 from 11am - 4pm at the Heritage Hall on Main Street.

What is Swap-O-Rama-Rama? Swap-O-Rama-Rama (SORR) is a clothing swap and wearable art creation event. The swap begins with a giant collective pile of clothing, the unwanted costumes of all who attend. For a minimal fee and a bag of clothing, everyone is welcome to dive in and find their next new / used items from the pile. Take as little or as much clothing from this pile as you like!

After you have chosen your new clothes, move on over to a crafting station, where you can cut, sew, glue, paint, silk screen, sew, and otherwise renew someone else’s rags into your riches. Materials and a few sewing machines will be available to help you unleash your well-dressed muse. Or, attend a workshop where you can learn to modify your re-fashioned finds in unexpected ways.

The Whole Bead Show May 1-3, 2009 The Empire Landmark, Crystal Ballroom 1400 Robson Street, Vancouver BC

Got Craft? holds semi-annual craft fairs (also, they don’t capitalize).

next event: sunday, may 3rd, 2009

royal canadian legion @ 2205 commercial drive (at e. 6th avenue) Vancouver, BC

I went to their pre-xmas fair and was greatly disappointed. Allow me to explain. The entry fee was extremely reasonable at $2, but the venue was so small that there was a line to get in that extended down the block. Like some sort of hot dance club or something. I am not a big fan of lines. So, my expectations were raised. Also knowing that CraftZine was a sponsor, let me to expect LEDs, a DIY attitude and snark. It was far more traditional than I was expecting. It was not a high school xmas craft fair, but then it wasn’t the Circle Craft Christmas Market either. Plus there were no electronics or LEDs, piezoelectric buzzers, … I was just expecting something far different than I found.

In addition to their semi-annual craft fair, Got Craft? is putting on a monthly show as well. Here’s what they have to say about it:

Vancouver’s largest indie craft fair has gone bite sized! Got Craft is set to take place every second Sunday between June to November from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at Little Mountain Studios located at 195 E. 26th Avenue (at Main Street).

Featuring a rotating list of 13 vendors, Got Craft? showcases the best hand made vendors in the City!

Fraser Valley Bead and Jewellry Show October 9, 10 & 11, 2009 Cascades Convention Center/Casino 20393 Fraser Highway, Langley, BC

I wonder what happened to the 2009 show? Historically it has taken place in the Tradex in Abbotsford

Fibrefest International’s next show is October 1 & 2, 2010 http://www.fibrefestinternational.com/newsite/index2.htm

edit: Well, even if Fibrefest is not until next year, there’s a similar event this year: March 20th and 21st, 2009. Friday, 10-8 & Saturday, 10-5. AgRec Bldg, Abbotsford Exhibition Park, 32470 Haida Drive. http://www.fibreswest.com/
